The Baby Boom of the 50s

“The Baby Boom of the 50s also alerted people about how big the country was getting. One moment, the country is in its death throes with the Great Depression and people are ending their lives and realizing the grim future ahead. The next moment, The Great Depression is gone and WWII is finally over, more lives are being produced and the future looks bright.”

As you can see, the babyboom of the 50s was seen as a great thing. The more babies were born, the more products had to be produced such as clothes, diapers, toys, etc. so that parents could buy in order to meet their children's needs. Apparently, the Baby Boom not only raised the population, but the economy as well.

However, if you think about it, since all of those children had been born, all of them had to go to school but now, how do you get thousands more teachers and classrooms? Not to mention the crowding of the schools as well. I don't think that people should only consider BabyBoom as a good thing just because it helped the countrie's economy. If we take a look at the numbers, ten million students entered into elementary scholls in the 50s alone.

Baby Boom is good when it comes to making money but if we look at the families perspective, at the same time that families were growing, their quality of life was decreasing. Parents had to work more and do extra hours so that they could earn enough money to sustain their children which meant not be able to stay at home all the time.

I think it depends a lot on people's perspective on things but for me, an "explosion of births" is not very good. It is better when the country gradually grows in population so that it does not bring that much damage but unfortunatetly, that is something that we are not able to control as well as the decreasing of birth  rate that we are facing nowadays.

Here is a short video with some facts about this generation:
