The Eisenhower era - by Beatriz Gonçalves
Hello again everbody,
So, the topic I am going to approach this time, is the Eisenhower era.
The Eisenhower era is the name that is given to the eight years corresponding to the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was a popular war hero whose presidency was characterized by peace and prosperity, despite Cold War tensions and nuclear anxieties.
The Eisenhower era of the 1950s was a time of unprecedented economic growth and prosperity. GDP (gross domestic product) grew by an astonishing 150% in the period from 1945 to 1960. In the 1950s, with only five percent of the world’s population the U.S. economy produced almost half of the world’s manufactured products. The americans drove three-quarters of the world’s cars and consumed half of the world’s energy.
Union membership reached its historic peak in American history in 1954 when almost 35% of the nation’s workforce was unionized. The GI Bill and Marshall Plan expenditures, along with Cold War defense spending, contributed to economic growth.
Along with this, there was an obvious growth in the American population: around 50 million babies were born during the continuing baby boom in the Eisenhower era.
Overall, president Eisenhower's peacefull and innovative ways had a really positive balance in the Americas, as he avoided any type of conflict with other countries and really focused on the grouth of his country during his eight-year presidency.
And you? How do you think Eisenhower's ways, beliefs and actions lead to everything that happend in the so infamous Eisenhower era?
I hope you liked reading about today´s topic as much as I liked writing and
researching about it,
Thank you so much, stay safe people,
Beatriz Gonçalves
